I (Don't) Buy in Bulk

I don't spend a hundred dollars at the drugstore just so I can make $10 off of crap I don't need or use. I don't stock up on razors, cereal, shampoo, etc., etc., just so I can gain back a few dollars. I don't buy crappy makeup, baby food, hair products, or an over-abundance of bread that will ultimately go stale or moldy just because I have a coupon for it.

I'm not "extreme". I don't have a coupon binder (lie: yes I do, but it isn't huge and packed full of obscure clippings). I don't own one of those giant freezers. In fact, I refuse to buy extra bread and cereal and freeze it.

I don't have kids. I don't have a husband (although I do have a boyfriend who can eat a lot if he's in the mood, who likes to have his own shower gel and shampoo in my bathroom, who likes to use too many paper towels).

I'm a single girl, and I want to save money every way I can. This includes couponing, which can be tricky business if you aren't buying food to feed a small army family or practically stocking a bomb shelter with non perishables and toilet paper.

See, I'm a grad student. Which translates to, I'm poor. Well, not exactly. I save money on groceries so I can spend too much on new clothes and wine. Well, not exactly. I'm not that bad. But I DO like saving money on groceries. Okay, I get a little high every time I cash in a great coupon. I once bought two boxes of 36 tampons at Target for about $2 with coupons, and got a $5 gift card back for the purchase. It was great. I felt victorious.

I tried my hand at couponing, using various sites and blogs online. It seemed hard and confusing- why would I print out a coupon to use at CVS, when I never go there other than to buy cheap makeup? Why would I go to three different stores to do my grocery shopping?

Why would I buy 10 packs of razors, just so I could earn a few dollars back out of the deal?

This makes absolutely no sense to me.

Thus, the birth of this blog.

I will share my tips and tricks for saving money- when you're shopping for yourself, or you and a roommate, or you and your partner. Not you and the national guard.
